At Loch Bay our mission is to share with you our passion for our island’s enduring bond with the ocean.

Skye’s story began as the last of the ice retreated 10,000 years ago. Here, a new fertile landscape provided the perfect environment for the flourishing of marine species and began teeming with life.

Above this blossoming underwater world, the first inhabitants of the Isle of Skye arrived. These early settlers were drawn to the abundant resources offered by the sea and found a treasure trove of shellfish in the island’s bays and estuaries. Shellfish mounds, known as ‘middens’, dating back to this time are a testament to the vital role that seafood has played in the lives of the Sgiathanachs (Skye people).

The story of Skye has been a tale of survival, adaptation and resilience. As the centuries have rolled on, our people have continued to brave storms, isolation and the relentless forces of nature to harvest the gifts of the sea. Our local friends continue this venture out to sea today, bringing back the lobster, scallops, langoustines, and fish we serve in our restaurant.

We are just steps away from where this incredibly pristine harvest is landed.
